Tutla Bhawani is both temple and landscape. The road from Tilauthu ends at a car park in sal forest; a walk of a kilometre follows the stream into a narrowing gorge, and the shrine of the goddess — Tutla or Tutrahi Bhawani, a form of Durga — sits on a ledge with the waterfall beside it. In the monsoon the fall is a sheet; by winter it is a thread and the pool below is the attraction.
On the rock face is an inscription of 1158 AD by Pratapdhavala, the Khayarwal ruler of Japila who held the Rohtas hills before the Muslim sultanates — one of the few readable medieval records in the district, and a reminder that these hills had kings long before Sher Shah. The state has built steps, railings and a viewing platform since 2015, and the Navratri melas now draw from Sasaram, Dehri and Aurangabad.
