Rajgir is the easy answer: hotels of every budget, the ropeway up to the Peace Pagoda at sunset, cycling around Ghora Katora lake, the glass skywalk, hot springs — all safe and walkable, with Nalanda 12 km away. Bodh Gaya is the calm alternative with monastery guesthouses and good cafés. For something wilder, Valmikinagar (November–April) has river-side eco-huts on the Gandak with rafting and the tiger reserve. In winter, Kanwar Lake at dawn is as romantic as Bihar gets. Avoid the monsoon months for all of these.
