Waterfalls in Bihar

Kakolat, Dhua Kund, Manjhar Kund — the Kaimur monsoon

Yes, Bihar has waterfalls — and in the monsoon they are spectacular. They sit on the southern edge where the Chota Nagpur and Kaimur plateaus drop to the plains: Kakolat near Nawada with its natural pool, Dhua Kund's 'smoke' falls near Sasaram, Manjhar Kund where thousands picnic after Raksha Bandhan, and the ravines around Rohtasgarh. Best from July to October when the rivers run full; by February most shrink to streams.

Kakolat Falls

Bihar's most beautiful waterfall drops in a single sheet off the Kakolat hill into a cold green pool. Legend says a king cursed to live as a python was freed here, and anyone who bathes will not be reborn a snake.
