Ashoka Pillar at Kolhua

3rd c. BCE · intact · Kolhua, 4 km from Vaishali village

The only Ashokan pillar still standing with its original lion capital in place — a single polished sandstone shaft 18 m tall, the lion facing north towards Kushinagar where the Buddha died. Beside it the Ananda Stupa and the monkeys' tank, Ramkund.
